Normalization belongs in the interface layer when it removes repeated work

Incoming data is often technically valid but operationally unusable: free-text payer names, mismatched order codes, missing identifiers, inconsistent units or client-specific values. I build controlled crosswalks, fallback logic and exception paths so humans handle exceptions instead of every transaction.

Acknowledgments and delivery evidence matter

“We sent it” is not the same as “they received and accepted it.” Reliable interfaces track acknowledgments, destination response, retries and exception state so missing orders or results can be investigated with evidence.

Test the weird cases before go-live

Synthetic test generation and QA tooling make it possible to test nulls, edge values, missing segments, unusual units, delayed transactions and negative paths before they are discovered by a real production patient or user.

Do you build both inbound and outbound interfaces?

Yes. Work includes inbound orders/data, outbound results/documents, and bidirectional workflows.

Can you troubleshoot an interface you did not build?

Yes. Inherited and undocumented integrations are common. I trace transport, message structure, transformations, databases, destination behavior and acknowledgments.

Do you only work with HL7?

No. Interoperability work can include HL7, FHIR, REST/JSON, XML, secure file exchange, databases and custom transformation layers.
